Shutter Components

Rails The top and bottom horizontal members.
Stiles The main vertical members
of the framework of a
plantation shutter panel.
Divider Rails Allow separate
movement of the louvers above and below the divider rail. Divider rails
are useful when you want to close the lower louvers for privacy and open
the louvers above the divider rail for light and ventilation control.
Louvers Hardwood Designs Plus™ offers 2-1/2",
3-1/2", and 4-1/2" louvers. The louver rotation is used for
control of light, privacy and ventilation.
Tilt Bar Controls the coordinated movement of the louvers for
control of light, privacy and ventilation. The control rod is usually
mounted on the center of the louver on the face of the panel. The tilt
rod can also be mounted to the right or left edge of the louver.
Rabbeted Center Panel Special cut that allows panels to overlap each
other. Allows for better light blockage and better panel folding.
Mortised Hinge Special cut out on the side of panel
where the hinges are located. Allows the hinges to be “sunken” into
panel. Creates a smaller gap between panel and frame which allows for
better light control.
